Bull Shoals-White River State Park is Now Accepting Donated Items for Exhibits in New Visitor Information Education Center
December 2004

New Visitor Information Education Center

We are proud to announce the construction of the newest and largest Visitor's Information Center in the state is beginning here right by Bull Shoals Dam. This mammoth sized building will allow spectacular views of the White River and Bull Shoals Lake both, as well as Bull Shoals Dam. The Education Center will be a hotspot for tourists, locals, and school children alike. The presentations are going to be state of the art; we are very excited about this new project!

However, the Visitor's Information Center does need your help. We need historical items to display for educational purposes and cannot do this alone. Items to be collected include 30s, 40s, and 50s fishing equipment such as lures, flies, rods, reels, nets, and paddles, antique fishing maps, wooden canoes and jonboats, items from dam construction, mounted fish, pocketknives, minnow buckets, antique ferry bells, antique churns, antique telephones, and old signs. Basically, anything you can find will be appreciated very much!

Many photographs are also needed, such as pre-dam river photographs, dam construction, ferries, riverboats, early homes/people, and river activities such as fishing, floating, swimming, and baptisms, etc. In addition, the park will be using reproductions of selected postcards in the exhibits and is collecting and maintaining an archive of early postcards of the White River region. This will be "the" location for historical information about the White River, dating all the way back to ancient Indian tribes. Your contribution to this archive is greatly appreciated!!!!!

All items donated are fully tax deductible and may be mailed to Arkansas State Parks.
Donations are to the state park system and decisions regarding the use will be determined by the state park system.

Contact Bull Shoals-White River State Park at 870-431-5521 to schedule an appointment for potential donation items or for a complete list of needed donations.
