Accepts Applications for
$10,000 in Grants
April 2004
Twin Lakes Community
Foundation is accepting applications until April 15 from nonprofit
agencies in the four counties it serves for grants from a $10,000
fund. Twin Lakes Community Foundation serves Marion, Baxter, Fulton,
and Izard counties.
Grant applications
are available by contacting Estella Tullgren at 870-425-2694, and
are also available at many area banks. The grants will be awarded
May 28, Mrs. Tullgren said.
Groups which
received grants during the Twin Lakes Community Foundation's first
year, 2002-2003, were: Marion County Literacy Council, Inc., Twin
Lakes Literacy Council, Mountain Home Christian Clinic, Yellville
Area Food Closet Assoc., Norfork Area Youth Center, Inc., and Serenity,
Inc.
Twin Lakes Community
Foundation, and other affiliates of the Arkansas Community Foundation,
receive and administer charitable funds on behalf of individuals,
foundations, nonprofit organizations, and businesses. Community
foundations manage charitable donations, allowing a donor to avoid
the complexity and cost of creating a private foundation.
South Shore
Foundation became a first-year donor for the Twin Lakes Community
Foundation in 2003, giving a $10,000 endowment as the organization
began to build its endowed funds. That gift will remain permanently
as principal with its earnings awarded by the South Shore Foundation.
South Shore
Foundation set up an endowed fund with Twin Lakes Community Foundation
in 2003 because it saw the potential of the community foundation
to help the four-county area in the future. It's gift was eligible
for matching funds by the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation.
Currently, new permanent funds set up through Twin Lakes Community
Foundation are matched by the Walton Foundation's Partners Program
through 2007. At the end of 2003, Twin Lakes Community Foundation
reported earnings available for return to South Shore Foundation
on its endowment are $521.
