Three Receive 2009 South Shore Outstanding Teacher Award
Three area teachers were recently honored for outstanding service in their schools. A nomination letter, letters of recommendation, and supporting documentation of professional development and student success by the nominee were reviewed by South Shore Foundation Board of Directors who then choose the winners. Each was presented a cash award of $1000 to use how they like, as well as an award certificate.
Mechelle Belanger, Secondary Mathematics Teacher at Bruno-Pyatt High School, was nominated by her supervisor, who noted her enthusiasm and a marked increase in math test scores after her first year teaching with the school. Mina Benjamin, Special Education Teacher at Yellville-Summit, was nominated by the school’s principal who praised her dedication and compassion with her students as well as the investment of her own time and resources to improve opportunities to the kids in her class. Marilyn Pangle, Third Grade Teacher at Yellville-Summit was nominated by a co-worker for her involvement and leadership to her students, other teachers and the community.
South Shore Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable organization working to enhance the quality of life in the South Shore - Bull Shoals - Arkansas region. South Shore Foundation awards scholarships for academic achievers in each area school district and promotes education for all ages.
