Six
Receive 2008 South Shore Academic Scholarships

Six graduating seniors from area high schools
have received 2008 South Shore Foundation Academic Scholarships
of $1,000 each. South Shore Foundation is the charitable foundation
of Northern Arkansas Telephone Company. School administration
officials select their school’s recipient from applicants
based upon academic record.
Scholarship winners and their high schools
are: Morgan Rhiannon Kelley Johnson, Bergman; Kelsey Dawn Walker,
Bruno-Pyatt; Correna Renee Wood, Flippin; Justin
Hopkins, Lead Hill; Isaac James Huffman, Omaha; and Elizabeth
Grace Gilley, Yellville-Summit.

Morgan Johnson of Harrison, a student
at Bergman, was class valedictorian and class treasurer,
National Honor Society chapter president, and an ACT all
star award winner. Her school activities included being an
officer in Spanish Club and Future Business Leaders, a member
of Key Club, yearbook staff, and a gifted and talented student.
Morgan plans to attend Arkansas State University to study
mathematics, education and business. She is the daughter
of Roger and Darlene Johnson. |

Kelsey Walker
of Harrison and a student at Bruno-Pyatt, was chosen Student
of the Year, was a member of National Honor Society, and
received the AP English Award and Woodmen of the World American
History Award. Her activities included basketball, softball,
track, golf, and Interact. Kelsey plans to attend College
of the Ozarks to study elementary education. She is the daughter
of Ricky and Mari Walker. |

Justin Hopkins
of Lead Hill is the valedictorian of his graduating class.
He is active in community service. Justin plans to attend
Arkansas Tech University to study engineering. His parents
are Kenneth and Cynthia French. |

Correna Wood
of Flippin was valedictorian of her graduating class, winner
of the United States Achievement Academy Award, and various
Flippin High School teachers’ awards. She was active
in band, choir, Future Business Leaders, National Honor Society,
Junior Pride Team, C.I.A.O. flagline, and Students Against
Destructive Decisions. Correna plans to attend Arkansas State
University-Mountain Home to study elementary education. She
is the daughter of Jamin and Sandra Wood. |

Isaac Huffman
of Omaha was salutatorian of his graduating class and winner
of the Citizenship Award in junior high school. At Omaha
High School he was active in Future Business Leaders, Skills
USA, Beta, and Mu Alpha Theta. Isaac plans to attend the
University of Arkansas at Little Rock to enroll in the College
of Engineering and Information Technology to study systems
engineering. He is the son of Betty and Harold Huffman. |

Elizabeth Gilley
of Yellville has also received a Dean’s Scholarship
from the University of Central Arkansas where she plans to
attend college to study English education. She is the daughter
of Danny and Jimmie Sue Gilley. |
