Steve
N. Wilson Finishes Term with South Shore Foundation

Steve N. Wilson completed a three-year term on the board of the
South Shore Foundation at the end of 2007. Wilson is a retired
director of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and resides in
Norfork.
South Shore Foundation is the charitable arm
of NATCO Communications at Flippin. The company includes NATCO
telephone services and NATCO Technologies Internet services.
Commenting on the work of the South Shore
Foundation, Wilson said, “The
focus on education was rewarding. I was impressed with the educational
thrust of our grants from scholarships to grants to outstanding
teachers to classroom supplements teaching about wise choices for
our environment (Audubon Adventures ecology kits).”
A highlight of his service as a member of the South Shore Foundation
Board of Directors, he said, was supporting a grant to Friends
of the North Fork and White Rivers to distribute educational materials
about the watershed to the public.
Other community activities of Wilson include
being a board member or officer of the Arkansas Game & Fish
Foundation, the Arkansas Wildlife Federation, and North Arkansas
Fly Fishers.
Wilson has been named to the Arkansas Outdoor Hall of Fame, received
the highest award given by the International Association of Fish
and Wildlife Agencies in 1998, received the C.W. Watson Award from
the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies in 2000,
and was named a Distinguished Alumni of Arkansas Tech University
in 2000.
A graduate of Batesville High School and Arkansas
Tech University, Wilson also holds a master’s degree in
zoology from the University of Arkansas. Wilson and his wife,
Jo, a retired teacher and elementary school principal, have two
grown children and three grandchildren. They attend Norfork United
Methodist Church.
South Shore Foundation makes grants to nonprofit groups for projects
that advance education, preserve the environment, and promote economic
development in the South Shore region of northern Arkansas.
