Ed Coulter, a charter member of the South Shore Foundation Board
of Directors, completed his service on the board at the end of
his term. Dr. Coulter is the chancellor of Arkansas State University
Mountain Home.
Dr. Coulter has served since mid-1997, shortly after Northern
Arkansas Telephone Company organized South Shore Foundation as
its charitable arm. Since then, the foundation board has granted
more than $650,000 to area nonprofit organizations and agencies.
Dr. Coulter said the work of the South Shore Foundation
in education had been of
particular interest to him. “I will never forget South Shore
Foundation’s support of higher education at ASUMH. The foundation
created an endowment with gifts that eventually totaled $100,000.
Interest from that investment provides scholarships every year
for deserving area students,” he said.
Highlights of his service as a member of South
Shore Foundation’s
board were providing scholarships for young people, recognizing
outstanding teachers, and supporting adult leadership programs,
he said.
The mission of South Shore Foundation is to advance education,
preserve the environment, and promote economic development, according
to its mission statement. Dr. Coulter commended the foundation
for projects that fulfilled that mission, such as various grants
to the schools in the South Shore area for computer equipment and
environmental projects, and providing $25,000 to the Arkansas Game
and Fish Commission for the Conservation Education Center in Yellville.
