Mike Brown of Harrison completed his service on the South Shore
Foundation Board of Directors at the end of his term. Brown has
served since mid-1997, shortly after Northern Arkansas Telephone
Company created the South Shore Foundation as its charitable arm.
Since then, the foundation has made grants of more than $650,000
to nonprofit organizations and agencies in the local area.
Brown, who works as customer service manager for
Entergy Arkansas's northwest region, said the grants by South Shore
Foundation in education, job training, and economic development
had been of great interest to him. He cited a recent grant covering
tuition and other expenses for Marion and Boone County residents
studying to become certified nursing assistants through the Area
Healthcare Education Center at Harrison.
Other examples are support of the Marion County
Youth Leadership and the Marion County Adult Leadership programs.
"By funding these two programs, South Shore Foundation has worked
to train future business leaders and support the economic development
of the whole region," Brown said.
A highlight of his service as a member of the South Shore Foundation
Board of Directors was assisting a diverse team in helping develop
the South Shore area, Brown said.
Other community activities of Brown's include Harrison
Rotary, Harrison Chamber of Commerce and Berryville Chamber of
Commerce.
NATCO is an independent, family-owned telecommunications company,
