Six
Grads Receive South Shore Academic Scholarships
June
2007
Six graduating seniors from area high schools
have received 2007 South Shore Foundation Academic Scholarships
of $1,000 each. South Shore Foundation is the charitable foundation
of Northern Arkansas Telephone Company. School administration
officials select their school’s recipient from applicants
based upon academic record.
Scholarship winners and their schools are: A. Josiah Whitsell,
Bruno-Pyatt; Andrea Hardman, Bergman; Amanda Nicole Crosby, Flippin;
Alissa Hopkins, Lead Hill; Justin Kyle Tindall, Omaha; and Belinda
Cay Birrer, Yellville-Summit.

Josiah Whitsell of Everton
was a member of the National Honor Society, and received
honors as follows: Student of the Year, honor roll, attendance,
agri, biology, history, and English. He participated in basketball,
baseball, and track, and was in Future Business Leaders.
His parents are Tony and Christi Whitsell. Josiah plans to
attend Arkansas Tech University to study music. |

Andrea Hardman of Harrison
was valedictorian of her class, class president, student
body president, National Honor Society member, and received
honors as follows: Woodmen of the World Award, highest grade
in college trigonometry, chemistry, and advanced placement
U.S. history. She participated in basketball, softball, Key
Club, Senior Scholars, Student Council, and Spanish club.
Her parents are Dale and Brenda Hardman. Andrea plans to
attend Harding University with a science/math major. |

Amanda Crosby of Flippin
was state secretary, designer and workshop leader of National
Honor Society, yearbook editor, state finalist in Voice of
Democracy, and received honors as follows: Outstanding Band
Student, American history, Woodmen of the World. She participated
in soccer, color guard, Future Business Leaders, Students
Against Destructive Decisions, foreign language club, Student
Council, band, drama club, science club, and quiz bowl. Amanda
is the daughter of Mike and Patty Crosby. She plans to enroll
at the University of Arkansas; her major is undeclared. |

Alissa Hopkins of Lead Hill
was valedictorian of her class, a member of National Honor
Society, and state winner in track, placing third in the
800 meter race, basketball and softball captain, and received
honors as follows: Certificates of Achievement in chemistry,
trigonometry, and U.S. history. She was included in Who’s
Who Among American High School Students. She also participated
in choir, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Future Business
Leaders. Alissa is the daughter of Kenny and Cindy French.
She plans to major in psychology at Arkansas Tech University. |

Justin Tindall of Omaha participated
in basketball, fencing/sword fighting, band, choir, and E.A.S.T.
(Environmental and Spatial Technology) while at Omaha High
School. He is the son of Joel and Christie Tindall. He plans
to enroll at the University of Central Arkansas to major
in computer business sciences and marketing. |

Belinda Birrer of Yellville
was a member of National Honor Society, a cheerleader, and
on the Yell-Kat staff. She also participated in the Yellville
Environmental Awareness Club and was chosen in Who’s
Who as the “most likely to succeed.” Belinda
is the daughter of Randy and Reanell Birrer. She plans to
enroll at the University of the Ozarks and major in early
childhood education. |
