Students graduating
throughout Arkansas are recognized as Arkansas Scholars™ if
they meet academic and school attendance goals of the program.
Here, the program is called South Shore Arkansas Scholars, named
after the sponsor, South Shore Foundation.
At Bruno-Pyatt
High School, nine 2006 graduates were able to wear white cords
with their caps and gowns indicating they met requirements.
To be a South
Shore Arkansas Scholar, a student must have met all of the following
requirements since they started ninth grade: All semester grades
were Cs and above; courses recommended for higher education after
high school were completed; attendance was at least 95 percent;
and high school was completed in eight consecutive semesters.
This is the
second year that Bruno-Pyatt students have been eligible to be
named Arkansas Scholars even though the full program just started
in the ninth grade this school year. Graduating students had
academic and attendance records to qualify without participating
in the incentive program.
Marion County
Adult Leadership group works with the schools and students, and
local businesses support the program with discounts or free items
for participants, or donations for special events for the students.
