Kristy Worthen
will attend the festival flying a Mental Health Flag, which she
designed and hand painted, to bring awareness to mental health issues.
Her flag tour of the U.S. is spearheaded by the National Lieutenant
Governor 's Association to focus positive attention on mental health,
help erase stigma and dispel the myths associated with mental illness.
Worthen was chosen for this project because of her artistic ability
and her own personal victory in her struggle with bipolar disorder.
A multi-talented artist, Worthen works in acrylic, watercolor, pointillism,
charcoal, and scratchboard. Worthen also has carved a totem pole
that depicts the history of her American Indian heritage. It was
displayed at the United Nations building in May of 2004 as part
of the Totem Rhythms Exhibit, and at the Museum of Discovery in
Little Rock. Worthen recently purchased a home in the Ozark hills
of Salem, AR.
Admission to
the festival will be $1. For more information, call (870) 445-4302.
