South
Shore Foundation Increases ASU Scholarship Endowment to $100,000
March 2003
The South Shore Foundation has added $25,000 to its scholarship
endowment for math, science, and technology students at Arkansas
State University Mountain Home, bringing its endowment to $100,000.
The endowment was established last year with a $75,000 gift for
scholarships to be awarded for the first time this spring. The
deadline for applications is April 15, 2003, through the ASUMH
Financial Aid Office.
To be eligible for the scholarships, students must reside in Marion,
Baxter or Boone County and be enrolled in a math, science, or technology
program or in education to teach math, science, or technology.
"The South Shore Foundation trustees took the action to provide
at least two ASUMH scholarships from the endowment this year," according
to Jodie Elizabeth Jeffery, a South Shore trustee.
Selection of the scholarship recipients is by the Arkansas State
University Mountain Home Scholarship Committee. An application
for the scholarship is available from the ASUMH Financial Aid Office.
Financial need and academic ability will be considerations. If
the scholarship recipients maintain a B average, their scholarships
will be renewable for a maximum of four semesters or until they
obtain an undergraduate degree. Students may expend funds on tuition,
fees, books and related educational expenses.
Karen Wallace, vice chancellor for development
at ASUMH, said earnings on the endowment should provide two scholarships
the first year. She said the South Shore Foundation’s original
$75,000 endowment will provide $1,210 for scholarships for the
2003-04 academic term.
