The Flippin
High School Band withstood the late afternoon heat in order
to attract people into the McDonald's in Mountain Home. McTeacher's
Night is the first in a line of fund-raisers aimed at sending
the band to the Cotton Bowl next winter.
From 4 to
8 pm, teachers and administrators worked as greeters
and counter help at the store. The band receives 20 percent of
the profits.
According
to Band Director Joe Morris, the band returned from Oklahoma
City, where they took first prize in the high school concert band
competition.
"These
are such great kids," Morris said. "Their success and
the quality of their musicianship just keeps getting better."
McTeacher's
Night is a program started in Missouri and also held in Arkansas,
Kansas, Illinois and Oklahoma. A release from McDonald's claims
that nearly $100,000 was raised for 400 schools during the March
event.
Similar nights
for Mountain Home and Norfork School Districts are planned for
October and December.
Store owner
Laura Newth said that she and her husband Ken enjoy these events.
"We've
done many fund-raising events like this over the past five years,"
Newth said. "But helping out the schools is always a good
cause."
