Minutes:
Mark
distributed minutes of the March 23 meeting for
review. Roger moved to approve the minutes as written
and was seconded by Randy. The motion was approved.
Sign
project update:
Mike
Ragland and Roger reported that Daniel and Phyllis
Snow have given us permission to use their land
if we agree to put a picture of a black cow on the
sign. This is a “gentlemen’s agreement”
only; there is nothing in writing. We will call
Mr. Snow when we are ready to put up the framework.
NATCO is almost ready to do the digging. Mark will
talk to Lonnie Phillips to let him know and to express
regret that his land didn’t work out. Hopefully,
the sign will be up by the May meeting.
ACE
update:
Randy
reported that ACE articles have been published in
both the Baxter Bulletin and the Mountaineer Echo.
We are slowly but surely getting publicity out.
There will be at least one more article, then the
surveys (which are now on Valerie’s computer)
will be published in the newspapers and placed at
various community locations around the county. Randy
plans to present and collect surveys at the Yellville
Chamber banquet on April 26. Janell will donate
a door prize to be drawn from those who return the
surveys. Mark will okay this with Ron McPherson
prior to the meeting. In addition, Randy will present
the surveys to the Flippin City Council meeting
on May 24.
Career Day:
Roger
reported that VISTA volunteer Doug Simpson is coordinating
a “Career in Education and Opportunity”
Day on *Tuesday, May 25, at the Legion Hut, from
3-6 p.m. This is a one-day opportunity for people
who want to explore careers or re-education. As
a rule, employers will not be there, but there will
be 21 booths for various employment and educational
agencies. The adult leadership team will advertise
and promote the event by working through school
counselors, DHS, etc. The next step will be to put
together a promotional flyer, hopefully ready in
time for Ranger Days. We will also have a table
there with publicity about the leadership class,
ACE, and other projects. Mark will talk to Eve about
materials for our table. We also need volunteers
from this group to man the table. If anyone would
like to have a preview of the event, there will
also be a CEOD at the Marshall Senior Center on
April 29 from 2-5 p.m.
Ranger
Rally Days:
Mike
Rotenberry reported that Ranger Boats is expecting
a crowd of thousands to attend the first Ranger
Rally Days in Flippin, beginning at 7 a.m. April
23 and 24. This event will replace the annual dealer
meeting Ranger used to have in Branson each July.
The rally is an opportunity to invite not only dealers
and salespeople but the public as well. There will
be hourly tours, including the sports gallery now
open for the first time to the public, pro fishing
workshops, etc. The main tent will be located in
the new plant parking lot, with local venders setting
up downtown.
Website
update:
Mark
reported that according to Jodie Jeffrey, there
will be a Marion County Adult Leadership link on
the Southshore website (www.southshore.com),
similar to that of the Youth Leadership page. We
will be able to include members, photos, mission
statement, SWOT analysis, and any other information
we would like. Mark is not sure if there will be
a cost but believes Steve Sanders has indicated
there will not be. Someone will need to monitor
and update the site, answer e-mails, etc. Our e-mail
address is leadership@southshore.com.
Southshore
grant request:
We
have not heard from this yet because the board will
not meet until May, but our request of $3950.00
should be approved.
Courthouse
project:
This
is waiting on some figures from David Doshier. There
will be another meeting in the next few weeks.
Next
Meeting:
Mark will e-mail us with several dates to choose
from and a meeting date will be announced later.
This meeting was adjourned at 6:50.
