A
lobby wall at the old Lead Hill school gym is now more colorful
and more meaningful with the art work by the school's children
about their environment. Shown with the results of the Litter
Bugs NOT! project are (from left) Lead Hill Superintendent Dr.
B. Ray Morgan, student team member Carin Buckley, and team coach,
Deloris Smith. Kindergarten through sixth grades students learned
how litter harms the environment from three senior high school
students - Rachel Reeves, Carin Buckley, and Crista Hermann. Then,
each elementary student created a design and painted it on a ceramic
tile to show what the student would do to prevent littering or
to show their appreciation for the outdoors. This project was
entered into competition of the South Shore Developing Scholars
Academic Festival at Arkansas State University Mountain Home this
spring. It won the Fortune Award for teaching the importance of
tourism in the community.
