Flippin
Teachers Tackle Technology
September 1999

Flippin teachers are shown learning how to operate new digital equipment
the school received when it was awarded a $95,000 Arkansas Department
of Education grant. At a recent in-service, teachers learned how
to use digital cameras, both still and video camcorders; how to
work with new software manipulating sound and pictures; and how
to put together a multimedia project. Allen C. Benson of Arkansas
State University Mountain Home, seated at the computer, and Petra
Pershall, also seated, project director and library media specialist
at Flippin High School, were leaders of the workshop, along with
a team of teachers including Dianne Wade, Cassie Gilley, Jennifer
Metts, and Lisa Thompson. Also shown, from left, are teachers Tracie
Floyd, Cheryl Blasdel, and Joe Morris. The new computers will allow
all middle school and high school students and faculty to participate
in the South Shore Memory Project, a digital history project started
last school year with $25,000 initial funding by the South Shore
Foundation, the charitable foundation of Northern Arkansas Telephone
Company.
