5th Annual Cotter Open House
September 2004

Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism

The White River town of Cotter will continue to celebrate its centennial year during the fifth annual "Open House," Sept. 24-25. Art, antiques and architecture will become focal points as the historic little town commemorates its first 100 years.

The focus of this year's festival will be the rededication of the Ruthven Rainbow Arch Bridge, which has been under restoration for the past two years. The unique structure was completed to span the White River in 1930. It has been proclaimed an American landmark and placed on the National Register of Historic Places. State and national dignitaries have been invited to participate in ceremonies on Friday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m.

Exhibits, arts and crafts, live entertainment, food booths; plus programs about Cotter's railroad boom-days are planned. A fish fry is set for Friday evening and a downtown parade follows on Saturday.
