Named in NATCO Contests

Northern Arkansas
Telephone Company has announced winners in the drawing and essay
contests it sponsored in the South Shore area elementary and middle
schools this fall. Students received cash prizes totaling $425 and
certificates at an awards presentation. The theme of the contest
this year was the 50th anniversary of Northern Arkansas Telephone
Company.

All the winning entries will also be displayed at the NATCO office
in Flippin through the end of the year at 301 East Main St.
The top prize
winner in the seventh-eighth grade division of the essay contest
was Ben, who attends Lead Hill School. He wrote about a relative
who came to Arkansas during the Dust Bowl. Jamie, who attends Bergman
School, second prize winner, wrote about a relative from the "baby
boom" generation and life without the modern conveniences like air
conditioning and computers. Third place winner, Jeremy, who attends
Flippin School, chose the alternate topic about budgeting for telephone
and Internet use at home.
Six students received honorable mention certificates in the seventh-eighth
grade division as follows: Blake and Tara of Bergman; Dennis of
Lead Hill; and Travis, Rose and Liberty, all of Flippin.
Top prize winner in the fifth-sixth grade division of the essay
contest was Flora, who attends Bruno-Pyatt School. Justin, second
place winner, Tara, third place winner, and Jake, honorable mention
winner, all attend Lead Hill School.
Coloring contest winners are listed in order of prizes won, from
first through honorable mention, and their schools as follows:
Kindergarten - Paige, Bergman; Katy, Flippin; Sara, Bruno-Pyatt;
and Taylor, Bruno-Pyatt.
First grade - Eva, Bergman; Mason, Flippin; Tara, Bergman; and Brady,
Omaha.
Second grade - Gregory, Bergman; Josh, Bergman; Ariel, Yellville-Summit;
and Deborah, Omaha.
Third grade - Jennifer, Bergman; Abby, Yellville-Summit; Laura,
Lead Hill; and Holly, Bruno-Pyatt.
Fourth grade - Chelsea, Yellville-Summit; Synthia, Lead Hill; Hannah,
Lead Hill; and Zach, Yellville-Summit.

NATCO awards prizes to 5th-6th grade students for essays.
Students in
fifth and sixth grades in South Shore area schools of Marion County
and Boone County received certificates and cash awards for their
winning entries in a NATCO-sponsored essay contest. Most students
wrote about what life was like 50 years ago, based on an interview
with someone over 50 years of age. In the fifth and sixth grade
division, winners are (above, from left) Flora, Justin, Tara and
