Arkansas State Parks Issues Revised and Strengthened Burn Ban
September 2000

LITTLE ROCK - The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism has issued a revised burn ban for all of its 51 state parks.

Approximately two weeks ago all wood fires were banned in the parks, and only cooking fires in containers with controlled flames were allowed.
However, today the Department expanded the burn ban to include all wood and charcoal fires.

Greg Butts, Director, Arkansas State Parks, states, "Because of the high fire danger it is necessary to tighten our policy."  The revised ban goes into effect immediately and will continue until further notice. "We must be very cautious over this busy Labor Day holiday weekend and beyond," says Butts.

Those planning to visit an Arkansas State Park during this burn ban are encouraged to call the individual parks for further details.
