for math, science and technology at Arkansas State University
Mountain Home. Here, she is shown on campus with Karen Wallace,

by the ASUMH Scholarship Committee. |
The Arkansas
State University Mountain Home Scholarship Committee has awarded
a newly established scholarship to Rita Swafford of Flippin. Mrs.
Swafford is pursuing a degree in Information Systems Technology.
The scholarship she received is awarded by the Arkansas State University
Foundation through a $100,000 endowment by South Shore Foundation
of Flippin. The funds are designated for students who study math,
science or technology.
Mrs. Swafford began attending ASUMH last
year when she was laid off after working 17 years for the same company.
The layoff provided assistance to earn a certificate, which Mrs.
Swafford completed. She then decided to pursue a degree on her own.
She is married to Tim Swafford, has one son, Billy Endres, and one
grandchild.
To be eligible
for the scholarship, students must reside in Baxter, Marion, or
Boone counties and be enrolled in a math, science or technology
program or in education to teach math, science or technology. The
scholarship is renewable for up to four semesters. For more information
about the South Shore Endowed Scholarship, contact the ASUMH Financial
Aid Office.
South Shore Foundation is the charitable foundation
of Northern Arkansas Telephone Company, a family-owned and operated
independent telecommunications company serving portions of Marion
and Boone Counties. Trustees of the South Shore Foundation are leaders
in business, government, and education in the area served by NATCO.
