The
Arkansas State University Mountain Home Scholarship Committee
has awarded three scholarships to students
in math, science or technology degree programs for the 2004-05
year. Recipients of the full-tuition scholarships are: Beverly
Arrowood of Mountain Home, Lisa Bennett of Gassville, and Arthur
Kittleson of Mountain Home. These scholarships are funded by a
$100,000 endowment to the Arkansas State University Foundation
from South Shore Foundation, the charitable foundation of NATCO
at Flippin.
Arrowood is enrolled
in the information systems technology associate degree program
as a sophomore. She graduated from high school in
Marshall in 1980, and commented, "I am going after a future
I did not know was available or within my reach when I was younger." Mrs.
Arrowood wants a challenging career working with computers and
a higher education to help beat the minimum wage "trap" and
provide a better future for herself and family. She is married
to Jerry Arrowood and has two children, one in the ASU bachelor’s
degree program and one entering high school.
Bennett is enrolled
in the business technology associate degree program as a first
semester freshman. She graduated from high school
at Santee, Calif., where she was active in student government and
fund-raising efforts for the San Diego Zoo. She said her decision
to go to college came after an illness because she is no longer
able to return to her old line of work. She plans to earn a bachelor’s
degree in human resources. She is married to Robert Bennett and
they have four children.
Kittleson is enrolled
in the information systems technology associate degree program
as a first semester freshman. A 2004 graduate of
Norfork High School, Kittleson was a class officer, a merit award
winner for leadership by USAA, North Arkansas Regional Science
Fair award winner, and named to Who’s Who Among American
High School Students for four years. Kittleson hopes to work for
a large company in the computer field, such as Cisco and to reside
in a larger city.
To be eligible for this scholarship, students must reside in Baxter,
Marion, or Boone counties and be enrolled in a math, science or
technology program or in education to teach math, science or technology.
The scholarship is renewable for up to four semesters. For more
information about the ASUMH-South Shore Endowed Scholarship, contact
